A businessman from Dikeni in the Eastern Cape was mauled to death by his own pitbulls on Friday.
Eastern Cape Police Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said the businessman succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Saturday morning.
“According to the report, it is alleged that the 66-year-old man was viciously attacked by three pitbulls at Wienand Street, Alice. The incident took place on Friday, at about 19:00, and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment,” she said.
The police have opened an inquest to investigate the case.
Community activist Petros Majola described the man as a well-known businessman in Dikeni and nearby areas.
He plans to visit the victim’s family on Sunday and has urged the public to avoid making insensitive comments about the tragic incident.
