Double blow for Kaizer Chiefs

Menzi Magubane

Kaizer Chiefs will have to battle Tanzanian giants Simba without Dumisani Zuma and Khama Billiat.

Due to injury, Billiat and Zuma will miss the match against Simba for the second leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-final at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday at 3pm.

Zuma was forced off early in the first leg encounter on Saturday after picking up a knee injury while Chiefs ran riot over Simba.

Billiat has yet to return from the injury he picked up three weeks ago when Chiefs beat Mamelodi Sundowns in a DStv Premiership match.

“Zuma’s knee is quite bad, it looks like he will be out,” Gavin Hunt told Kick Off magazine.

“We are running out of players again. Zuma is a big blow to us and Khama Billiat hasn’t played much this season and he is our main attacking threat.”

Hunt, however, does have something to smile about: experienced goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is back from his suspension and is available for selection.

Last weekend, Bruce Bvuma had an excellent day at the office as he managed to keep a clean sheet in his Champions League debut, but the experience of Khune will come in handy in Tanzania.

Amakhosi have a four-goal advantage in the tie and as long as Simba do not match that, the Soweto giants will have a spot in the semi-final.

They have already been presented with a cheque of R9.5 million for progressing to the quarter-finals.

Should they wrap up the tie and progress to the last four, they are guaranteed a R12.4 million payday.
