Three Diepsloot leaders who were arrested last week on Thursday have been granted bail of R500 bail each.
The leaders of Diepsloot Community Forum, Lefa Nkala, Jack Hlongwane and Loyiso Toyiya faced charges related to public violence linked to recent protests in the Gauteng township.
There was a big turn out of people supporting the men in court. The supporters chanted and danced to struggle songs as they waited for the court outcome.
After they were released, the crowd broke out into cheers and the men waved back at them in response. The smiles on their faces showed their relief after being kept in the Jukskei Central Police Station for nearly a week.
People came from different parts of Johannesburg in taxis while some travelled in their cars to show support for their leaders.
There was a substantial police presence with police cars parked outside the court premises.
Inside court, the gallery was packed. A few appointed leaders were allowed to enter and watch the proceedings.
The men have been leading anti-crime marches in the past weeks. Residents have been complaining about high levels of crime in their township.
They have been calling for President Cyril Ramaphosa to address them.
The men accused of leading the revolution will return to court once again on 17 August.
