Tom Thabane, the Lesotho Prime Minister accused of murder, is still refusing to quit.
The 80-year-old politician announced that he would resign on Wednesday 13 May.
Wednesday has come and gone, but Thabane hasn’t.
Thabane’s second wife is on trial for the murder of his first wife. He himself is implicated in the murder, and has claimed immunity while in office. This has caused a political crisis in Lesotho — with no end in sight.
According to News24, Lesotho’s attorney general advised him that he could not legally be forced to resign. So Thabane changed his mind, formed a new coalition in parliament and intends to stay in power — and out of jail.
