Even the men and women in blue need a weekend away from chasing criminals and protecting the public.
National Police Day brought men and women from police stations across the country to the Peter Mokaba stadium in Limpopo on Friday.
There was a feeling of excitement, love and dance in the air – and the police ministry raised R3 million for children who had lost their parents in the line of duty.
Police officers took part in the dances and the sports.
Sergeant Reoh Mabunda, who led the provincial Xibelani Traditional Dance group, based in Limpopo, was one of the entertainers on the day,
“We are always expected to deliver to the citizens. Our work is demanding,” Mabunda said.
“We don’t only deal with crime and arresting people but also need to do what everyone else is doing, like singing and dancing.”
Lieutenant Colonel Thishelimbilu Makungo led the Vhembe District Tshigombela group. The group said they embrace tradition, and their group accommodates all people of all races from different police stations in Limpopo who participate in dance and entertainment.
