Current Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has praised Benni McCarthy on Instagram after the AmaZulu manager won coach of the month.
“My striker is now coach of the month!” cheered Mourinho.
McCarthy, who played for FC Porto under Mourinho, was rewarded the Premier Soccer League manager of the month for January/February.
McCarthy will be delighted that his former coach is keeping an eye on him as his career progresses.
McCarthy took over on 14 December and now his side is fighting for a top four spot in the DStv Premiership. AmaZulu have 31 points after 19 games and could go level with SuperSport United in fourth place.
Usuthu gained an impressive away victory over Chippa United in their last match, extending their unbeaten run to nine games. Last season they finished 13th.
Winning seven games, with four ending in draws and losing only two, fans will be thrilled with the start McCarthy has had.
AmaZulu are top of the form table, based on the last six matches, with five wins and one draw, scoring ten goals and conceding five.
McCarthy and his men are clearly making it clear they mean business under the new management.
Next up for the Durban side in the DStv Premiership is Tshakhuma Madzivhadila on 21 March after the international break.
