Cape Town beachgoers got a surprise when a Checkers Sixty60 delivery rider showed up at Clifton Fourth Beach – on a jet ski.
A video that’s gone viral on TikTok shows the delivery person cruising on the waves at the famous beach, swapping the usual scooter for something more suited to the ocean.
This comes after Checkers has been expanding its delivery service across the country, even putting its branding on planes earlier this year.
While it’s not clear if this was a publicity stunt or a solution to Cape Town’s bad traffic, it caught people’s attention.
The Checkers Sixty60 delivery riders, with their signature motorbikes, have often drawn annoyance among fellow road users because of their sometimes reckless driving, weaving through traffic in a frantic bid to deliver groceries within an hour.
“Can they deliver my ice cream before it turns into juice?” one social media user joked.
Sadly, Checkers hasn’t said whether jet ski deliveries will become a regular service at Cape Town’s beaches.
