• Sinazo Yanta started her cleaning business with R1000 and now employs six workers after leaving her cashier job due to poor treatment.
• Rising costs and transport expenses continue to strain her business as she spends over R3000 monthly on cleaning supplies and travel.
Sinazo Yanta from Cape Town turned her back on a cashier job and started her own cleaning company.
She launched Yanta Legacy Cleaning Company with just R1000, buying cleaning supplies before she even had clients.
Yanta said she left her job because of how her manager treated her.
“The money I am making now is far better than what I was earning as a cashier, now I work for myself and a job creator I love what I do,” said Yanta.
Her business has grown and she now hires six people, four women and two men.
But running the company comes with rising costs. Yanta spends about R3000 a month on detergents and says prices are still going up.
“Running a cleaning company business is not easy especially now that prices are increasing, from next month I was told that I will be paying more than R3000, the prices are going up,” said Yanta.
She charges different prices depending on the job. Basic cleaning for a one room costs between R250 and R500, while a four room home costs more. Deep cleaning ranges from R400 to R1300. Window cleaning starts from R50 to R70.
For events like weddings, funerals and parties, she agrees on prices with her clients.
Transport is another challenge. Yanta does not own a car and must hire one to buy stock and take workers to jobs.
“The petrol price is not only affecting people who owned cars but it affects everyone because as someone who doesn’t one I have to hire a car every time I buy the stock paying R500. I also pay R150 to hire a car that transport my employees to work and sometimes I pay more depending on where my client stays,” said Yanta.
She hopes to grow even more if she gets funding.
“I still have alot to do and I believe that if I can get a funding I can do more, as a country we have a problem of high unemployment rate, being able to hire people is what motivates me and I know when my business grows I will need to hire more people,” said Yanta.
