Two of the most powerful men in KZN politics have buried the hatchet after battling in public during March.

Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, the traditional prime minister to the Zulu monarch, and ANC KZN chairperson Siboniso Duma were seen sharing jokes three months after their well-publicised brawl.

The microphone-grabbing incident occurred during the commemoration of King Dinuzulu kaCetshwayo at kwaCeza near Ulundi in front of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Buthelezi was introducing the Zulu regiments to the king. But Duma didn’t want him to finish his speech, so he grabbed the microphone, leading to a scuffle involving ANC members present at the event.

On Sunday night, Buthelezi and Duma met privately in Durban.

Duma’s spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya, confirmed to the daily Zulu newspaper Isolezwe that the two leaders had met and resolved their differences.

“Buthelezi and Duma discussed several issues as they want to work for the people of KwaZulu-Natal without any challenges,” said Sibiya.

Their meeting followed their first public appearance in Pietermaritzburg last Tuesday, where they were seen sharing jokes.

They spent the better half of the morning together before being sworn in as MECs.

People smiled when they saw them laughing together.

Duma had refused to recognise Buthelezi as the traditional prime minister to the Zulu monarch since he was appointed during the Isandlwana 1879 commemoration held in Nquthu in northern KZN on 22 January.
