BUTHELEZI BURNT IN HOSPITAL ACCIDENT

By Celani Sikhakhane

There has been another twist in the ongoing health saga of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi. The latest, only last week, was an accident with hot water, leaving him with a burnt arm.

As a 94-year-old diabetic, he does not heal easily; and for weeks he has been in and out of intensive care at a private hospital in Durban.

Yet last weekend, he was spotted by the window “soaking in the picturesque sea view of Durban”, according to an insider.

Sources within the hospital, known to Scrolla.Africa, reveal that the leader is on his way to recovery.

“After his release from the intensive care unit on Wednesday, signs of recovery from the burns and concurrent back pain treatment became evident.”

His diabetes condition raised concerns about a potentially slow recovery, but Buthelezi’s resilience seems to be defying the odds. And the odds are high: the prince encountered additional complications during his stay in ICU, including pneumonia.

As he approaches his 95th birthday on 27 August, wishes are pouring in from far and wide.

ANC KwaZulu-Natal’s Bheki Mtolo joined the chorus of birthday well-wishers for the revered leader, acknowledging his legacy.

Notably, the leader’s daughter, Princess Phumzile Buthelezi, along with her son, was seen leaving the hospital after visiting him.

A security detail remains vigilant outside his ward.

Insights into his condition indicate that an injection used for alleviating back pain, often administered to pregnant women, led to further discomfort and his subsequent return to the hospital.

Family spokesperson Bhekuyise Buthelezi assured Scrolla.Africa that a comprehensive update would be shared shortly.

“We deeply regret the delay in issuing an official statement to update the nation. Please understand that we are committed to providing accurate information on Prince Buthelezi’s condition.

“An official statement will be released promptly,” emphasised Bhekuyise Buthelezi.
