When his wife discovered R10,000 worth of porn receipts and confronted him the business owner fired her.

The woman, Nicole Ramsay who was working for him, has since divorced her husband and taken him to the employment tribunal. He has been ordered to pay her more than R300,000.

Ramsay, a financial consultant, was working for her husband’s lawn care company in September 2019 when she found payments made to X-rated websites.

After the incident, the husband took away Ramsay’s house keys, cancelled her car insurance and took away her cellphone.

When Ramsay took maternity leave, her ex-husband still paid her but dropped her salary by around R5,000 during her leave.

A month later, Ramsay began a divorce process against her husband and gave birth to their daughter a few weeks later.

After her maternity leave ended in October 2020, Ramsay started a new job as a financial consultant in November 2020.

“The emotional worry and intimidation that Mrs Ramsay faced as a consequence of the actions of Mr Ramsay had caused her worry which at such a late stage in her pregnancy caused medical issues brought on by stress,” said judge Mike Hallen at the trial.

The R300,000 awarded to the ex wife were due to unauthorised deductions from her wages as well as compensation for “injury to feelings” in respect of her direct marriage discrimination claim while her claims of pregnancy discrimination and victimisation were dismissed.
