Bumrah returns but Bengaluru conquer Bombay!

By Razeen Gutta

For the first time in a decade, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru silenced the Wankhede Stadium with an away victory over the Mumbai Indians.

In the game of the Indian Premier League season thus far, the stars aligned for RCB as they edged a 12-run win on Monday.

After being put into bat by Hardik Pandya, Rajat Patidar’s side raced to 221/5 in their 20 overs as Virat Kohli smashed 67 off 42 balls before Patidar himself got in on the action with a stellar 64 off 32.

Jasprit Bumrah’s return from injury was marked with the most economical figures of the first innings, but the star pacer could not manage any wickets in his four overs for 29 runs.

In response, Rohit Sharma opened with aggression, but Yash Dhayal would dismiss the Indian captain for 17 before Josh Hazlewood picked up South Africa’s Ryan Rickelton for the same score.

Suryakumar Yadav’s run-a-ball 28 was also brought to an end by Dhayal while former RCB man Will Jacks managed 22 before being dismissed by Krunal Pandya.

After dominating the first half of the innings, Krunal and company were shocked in the middle overs by his brother Hardik, who smashed it to all parts with a quick-fire 42 off 15 balls.

The Mumbai skipper could not stay until the end, though, and the wheels fell off at the death as Krunal finished with 4/45 and the hosts on 209/9 in their 20 overs.

The win leaves RCB third, level on points with leaders Delhi Capitals, who they will face in Bengaluru on Thursday.
