Bakery truck driver Katlego Noukagoe was shot and killed in a suspected hit while delivering bread at a tuckshop in Welgedacht, Springs on Monday afternoon.
The suspect allegedly followed the truck driver into the shop and shot him three times.
Police confirmed four 9mm cartridges were found at the scene.
Speaking to Scrolla.Africa, shopkeeper Allam Nur said Katlego came to deliver bread as he has been doing for years.
“We exchanged greetings. While I was preparing the payment, he walked to the back of the shop with the crates of bread. He was followed by a man whom I thought was a customer,” said the shopkeeper.
“Before I knew it I heard gunshots. I thought it was a robbery and hid under the counter.”
The shopkeeper said in the years they have been operating in the area they have never had any robberies.
The truck assistant, who is the deceased’s uncle, Mache Motebejane, said he was in the back of the truck when he heard gunshots and hid behind the crates of bread.
“When I peeped out to investigate I saw the suspect dressed in a black jacket positioning the firearm on his waist before running out,” he said.
“I ran into the shop and found my nephew lying motionless in a pool of blood.”
Mache said though bakery delivery trucks are targeted, he finds it odd that the suspect didn’t take anything from the shop or the money they had on them.
“I don’t know whether he had enemies or received any threats. We want the suspect to be arrested and pay for the killing of my nephew,” he said.
Springs Police spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala confirmed that police are investigating a case of murder.
“The suspect is unknown at this point. Video footage of the incident was captured on the security cameras fitted inside the tuckshop,” Tshabalala said.
