They’ve done it again! Bafana Bafana internationals Luther Singh and Pule Mmodi have been slammed for failing to arrange their passports in time.
As a result the duo have missed out on making it into the 23-man team SA coach Hugo Broos announced on Monday, which will take on Ethiopia in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers next month.
According to Farouk Khan, who discovered Singh and polished his skills at Stars of Africa Academy, the 24-year-old knew all along that he had to sort out his visa.
“As someone who has played in Europe since 2015, he should have known better. These things need to be taken care of. His lack of responsibility, which saw him stay back in SA for a while after the Zimbabwe and Ghana games, resulted in him returning to his team in Denmark very late,” said a disappointed Khan.
For Mmodi, it’s a golden opportunity missed to showcase what he could do at international level.
The Bafana Bafana coach has shown guts in selecting the untried and tested guns with a view to rebuilding the national team.
Although efforts to get hold of Mmodi proved futile, it is understood Broos has registered his disappointment with the two players. Iit remains to be seen if he will call them up again.
The first clash with Ethiopia will be at the Bahir Dar Stadium on 9 October in Ethiopia, and the return match will be played at FNB Stadium on 12 October.
Singh, who is a central striker, is signed to FC Copenhagen in Denmark while Mmodi is on the books of Lamontville Golden Arrows.
