A total of 55 members of the Australian Olympics squad have returned to their normal routine after being placed in a two-hour lockdown.
This is after American pole vaulter Sam Kendricks tested positive for Covid-19.
Three members of the Australian team remain in isolation despite testing negative due to the trio being in close contact with Kendricks.
“All three tested negative after undergoing a PCR Test this afternoon, while teammates remained in their rooms in line with AOC Covid protocols,” said the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC)
“The three, who are all vaccinated, self-reported once they heard news of the US athlete testing positive late on Thursday morning.”
All members of the Australian Team are tested daily.
The athletics events are set to get underway tomorrow, 30 July and the AOC have stated that they expect all their athletes, including the trio who remain in self-isolation, to take to the track.
Kendricks however will not be competing at this year’s Tokyo games and has since been transferred to a hotel where he will isolate before heading home. The two-time world champion will be devastated with the news. The USA track and field team tweeted their support for the athlete.
