Kaizer Chiefs are slowly working their way backwards and their status as soccer giants could soon be a thing of the past.
Amakhosi faithfuls are likely to endure yet another painful and trophyless season under new manager Stuart Baxter.
After Chiefs struggled to beat rookies Marumo Gallants on Sunday, it was evident that the problem in Naturena is bigger than any coach, and the club management need to take a serious look at themselves.
On Twitter, frustrated fans had their say.
One user wrote: “Baxter has made it so hard to look forward to a Kaizer Chiefs game, impossible to enjoy. KC management shoult be ashamed of themselves!”
Another said: “We need to send four representatives to Naturena for an update on our memorandum. They will also ask Kaizer Chiefs what its objectives and goals are for the 2021/22 season. This will help us as fans to lower our expectations.”
Last season Chiefs roped in experienced manager Gavin Hunt after missing out on the league title on the final day of the previous season.
Hunt was not welcomed by most of the club’s fans and from the first match he was already under pressure.
To make matters worse for him, Chiefs were unable to sign new players for the entire season after a CAF transfer ban.
This season started with a new coach, Stuart Baxter. The Englishman finds himself facing the same problem that Hunt was facing – he is not a favourite with the fans.
Sunday’s result has left Chiefs in 13th position, just three points above the relegation zone. They have played five matches and collected five points out of a possible 15 – exactly the same position Hunt was in after his first five DStv Premiership matches.
Amakhosi have not made any progress despite signing 10 new players over the summer.
