As seven metro police officers accused of murder stood in the dock in the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, angry community members outside the court demanded their release so the community could deal with them.
“We want them to experience community justice,” said Mandla Shabangu. “They killed one of our own, a father to an infant.”
The Ekurhuleni Metro Police are facing charges of murder, attempted murder, assault GBH and defeating the ends of justice.
Their case was postponed to Wednesday for a formal bail application and they were remanded in custody.
On Thursday night last week the cops – five constables and two inspectors – invaded a shack in Langaville where four cousins were sleeping and assaulted them.
Two men, Mcedisi Shabalala and Zenzele Mgaga, managed to run out of the shack.
The officers pursued them and Mgaga was shot twice in his left leg and was rushed to hospital. Shabalala was also shot and died on the scene. His body was dragged behind a shack.
