Duduzane Zuma wants the position of ANC chairperson of ward 11 in Newlands, East in Durban but he is not putting in the work – and the branch members are angry.
Branch members told Scrolla.Africa that Duduzane should forget about winning the branch chairperson position.
“We know that he was in Dubai until last weekend while we have been campaigning hard for the elections. All our branch members are angry at him,” said Simo Sithebe.
In August, Duduzane’s ambitions of becoming branch chairperson got off to a bumpy start after a meeting collapsed when branch members did not attend a meeting to elect new leaders.
Duduzane is up against Mdu Nkomo – who now looks set to clinch the race as branch members have thrown their weight behind him instead of Duduzane.
New branch elections are expected to take place two weeks after next week’s local government elections.
Another branch member Thabo said no one wants him to be the next chairperson of the branch.
“I think he shot himself in the foot by not being visible during the campaign,” he said.
“He is just too lazy to campaign for the ANC, yet he wants to be our branch chairperson. There’s no way that branch members will vote for a person who does not campaign for the ANC.”
Duduzane, a close associate of the controversial Gupta family, stunned many when he announced his leadership ambitions inside the ANC and ultimately even the country.
Before then, he was a lesser-known figure within the big Zuma family until his dodgy relationship with the Guptas thrust him into the public spotlight.
The ANC is campaigning hard to retain the ward in Newlands East as parties like the DA are making inroads.
Duduzane could not be reached for comment as his phone was on voicemail.
