Mzansi soccer lovers are in for a treat when the top-of-the-table clash between a fatigued Mamelodi Sundowns and a well–rested AmaZulu gets underway on Wednesday afternoon.
The contest at Jonsson Kings Park will give an indication of where the title might be headed.
Veli Mothwa, AmaZulu goalie, believes Sundowns can be beaten.
“Sundowns is a big team but there on the field it’s 11 vs 11 and not the name of the team,” said Mothwa.
“The mood in the camp is good. We are working hard to build on what we have achieved so far.”
Second-placed Usuthu are six points behind Sundowns and have also played two games more.
Even if they win their title hopes would still be a long shot, while victory for Sundowns would surely make it “game over.”
However, a win for Benni McCarthy’s men would mean they cut the points difference by half.
And their six successive victories previously is already a club record.
It would be a major statement if they were to extend that further, as well as open up the title race a little.
The Brazilians have already claimed a new record this season after going 20 games unbeaten in the league with 13 wins and seven draws.
Their egos were recently bruised, however, when they were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila.
Sundowns are now seeking to become the first club in PSL history to go through the campaign unbeaten.
AmaZulu have not beaten Sundowns in a league game in Durban since 1992.
However, given their current form, and with Sundowns having played five games in 15 days, they may not get a better chance than now.
