Algeria came back from behind twice to force a 3-3 draw with Bafana Bafana in a six-goal international friendly match at Nelson Mandela Stadium on Tuesday.

Themba Zwane scored on 34 minutes to cancel Yassine Benzia’s 22nd-minute opener for Algeria and the Mamelodi Sundowns captain was back to strike again in the stoppage time of the first half.

Algeria then levelled terms through Yacine Brahimi eight minutes into the second half but substitute Elias Mokwana reclaimed the lead for Bafana on 66 minutes in what was his second goal in as many matches.

Benzia struck back for the home side with 20 minutes to go to settle the contest as a draw.

Bafana coach Hugo Broos made significant changes for the match from the team that drew 1-1 with Andorra last Thursday.

The Belgian called upon goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, Themba Zwane, Grant Kekana, Oswin Appollis and Teboho Mokoena while Iqraam Rayners started up front.

After being trusted to start, Appollis almost repaid Broos but was denied by the crossbar as early as the third minute.

Some poor marking by Bafana defenders then allowed Benzia to find space and fire home for the hosts.

But Zwane replied for South Africa when he connected a Mihlali Mayambela pass while under the challenge of Algeria defenders.

The Masandawana skipper returned when he cut in before unleashing a left-footed curler on half-time.

Algeria levelled terms via an unmarked Brahimi before Mokwana turned his marker to give Bafana the lead again.

Benzia’s acrobatic shot added excitement to the evening, resulting in a 3-3 draw.

Williams emerged as the hero towards the end when he excellently denied substitute Mounsef Bakrar in a one-on-one situation.
