- MK Party leaders say Jacob Zuma puts Brumilda Zuma in parliament while members in KwaZulu-Natal spend their own money to build the party.
- Leaders accuse Jacob Zuma of turning the MK Party into a family stokvel after Brumilda Zuma replaces Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla in parliament.
Angry MK Party leaders say Jacob Zuma is turning their party into a family project as his daughter Brumilda Zuma heads to parliament.
They say they use their own money to build the uMkhonto weSizwe Party, but Zuma gives top positions to his children. Some leaders say this leaves loyal members feeling ignored and used.
Brumilda takes over the seat left by her sister Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla. Her name on the list has caused frustration among regional leaders who say they worked hard to grow the organisation.
One leader told Scrolla.Africa: “We work very hard for this organisation but it seems like we are being used for Zuma’s family. We are using our own money and resources to grow this party but when it comes to positions in parliament, we are overlooked.
“It’s now clear that this party is Zuma’s family stokvel. How could you take Brumilda to parliament? She knows nothing about politics, yet she’s at the top of the list.”
Brumilda lives in eMpangeni in the north of KwaZulu-Natal. She is not well known in public, and little is known about her mother. She graduated from the University of Zululand in 2019.
In 2021, she was seen supporting her father at Nkandla before he went to jail. She is one of seven MK Party members heading to parliament.
Last year, she was accused of sabotaging the MK Women’s League by organising a separate event in eMpangeni on the same day, with help from MK members in the KwaZulu-Natal legislature.
She could not be reached for comment.
