Zuma takes IEC to court for ‘stealing votes’

uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party leader Jacob Zuma told his supporters outside the Electoral Court in Johannesburg on Monday that the fight with the IEC is far from over.

The party has not accepted the outcome of the 29 May elections and is taking the IEC to court.

Zuma and 22 other political parties did not support the declaration of the results because there were 579 objections lodged by the political parties.

The former president claimed the IEC stole MK party votes and gave them to the DA and the ANC.

“We campaigned very well and people of South Africa showed faith in us,” said Zuma.

“But when it was time for counting ballots, the IEC people did a lot of fraud and took our votes and gave them to other parties, including the ANC.”

He said MK party members were ignored when they complained a few days before the elections that IEC staff were careless with voting material.

“Before we went to vote, we caught some cars carrying IEC boxes to all sorts of places, without a police escort,” he said.

“In some cases we saw ANC people and IEC staff carrying these boxes.”

Msholozi said they do not believe the DA has more voters than the MK party.

“After voting, during counting, our votes are gone, we are told we are number three. Where does the DA get so many people who vote for it?”

Zuma urged his supporters not to cause violence, adding that he had already stopped people who were saying they wanted to protest.

“Don’t rush this fight. I heard there were people who were so angry they wanted to become violent and wanted to burn things.

“I said ‘no’ don’t rush. We are going to show them that we are modern South Africans, we are smart as well.”

He said this would be a long struggle that could see the MK party, which has 58 seats in Parliament, boycotting the institution.

“As it is we are opening a case today and since we warned them and they didn’t listen, if they go to Parliament who might just boycott going to Parliament,” said Zuma.
