- The Zulu King fell sick after attending King Mswati’s long weekend birthday bash and is now in a Durban hospital.
- A royal spokesperson shut down the claims, saying the king only went in for a normal checkup for winter flu.
Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini is lying in the intensive care unit of a private Durban hospital.
The King was rushed for medical help after he returned from eSwatini last week. He had travelled across the border for the long weekend birthday celebration of Swati King Makhosetive Mswati III.
Highly placed sources inside the royal court say his health took a serious knock after the trip.
“He was admitted last week after his return from eSwatini,” a source said.
The source said the King is currently in the ICU. His siblings have not visited him yet, which the source says points to a serious condition.
The royal family had planned a gifting ceremony in eSwatini for his second wife, Queen Nozizwe Mulelo, before he fell ill.
The private Durban hospital handles emergencies, major operations, and special heart, kidney and lung procedures.
This is the exact same hospital that treated his third wife, Queen Nomzamo kaMyeni, last year. She suffered a mild stroke after attending the opening of the KZN Legislature.
But the King’s spokesperson, Prince Thulani Zulu, shut down reports of a serious illness. He said the King only went to the hospital for a normal checkup and denied knowing about any serious condition.
“You will remember that he was in eSwatini and its a winter season which could lead any human being to get sick by flu,” Prince Thulani said.
He said nobody told him the King was sick enough to be admitted.
“I know he went to a hospital for a normal checkup but as his uncle it never came to my attention that he is in a situation that you are talking about,” he said.
