Zanele’s death divides family

Zanele Mbokazi’s death has allegedly caused divisions within her family.

Her husband, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, wishes to continue her work, but some relatives want him to return to Eswatini.

Mbokazi-Nkambule passed away on 12 August from lung cancer.

A source told Zimoja: “Certain family members are questioning his presence, saying Zanele is gone and suggesting he should return to his home country. It’s painful to hear such things after he’s built a life here.”

However, other family members support the bishop in carrying on Zanele’s legacy, particularly with the Crown Gospel Awards.

“There will always be family issues, especially around death and finances. The bishop truly loved his wife. Every family has its share of drama,” the source added.

Efforts are being made to unite the family as they seek more sponsors for the Crown Gospel Awards, scheduled for 17 November, as well as other projects Zanele was involved in.

In early September, the 2024 Crown Gospel Music Awards announced a new “Best of Africa” category for gospel artists from Africa, the US, the Caribbean, and the European diaspora.

The awards will also honour Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule with several changes, including a new logo revealed by Bishop Nkambule, who remains the event’s executive producer.
