The Eastern Cape is preparing to welcome home the body of musician Bulelwa “Zahara” Mkuthukana on Saturday.

Her arrival at King Phalo Airport in East London marks a sombre moment for her family, friends, and fans.

Atule Joka, the spokesperson for the Eastern Cape Arts and Culture MEC, announced that the family and church will lead prayers upon her arrival.

The local artist community is also expected to join in paying their respects.

Zahara, a beloved singer, passed away at the age of 36 in a Johannesburg Hospital this Monday.

Plans are underway for her burial next Saturday.

During a memorial held at the Rhema Bible Church in Johannesburg on Thursday, Zahara’s sister, Bulelwa Mtukutwana, shared the family’s heartrending final moments with the singer.

According to Mtukutwana, the family rushed back to the hospital after receiving a call from the doctor, just hours after their afternoon visit.

Describing the painful experience, Mtukutwana recalled how they were asked to stay in the room, anticipating Zahara’s final moments.

The family consumed in grief, prayed for four hours as they witnessed the multi-award-winning star’s struggle.

Zahara had been hospitalised for three weeks.
