Young South African debater chosen to lead global event in London

Tanya Jakeni, a 19-year-old debater from South Africa, has been chosen to lead an international event in London. She will serve as the President of Debate on Monday, 20 April. Her job involves leading talks among people from all over the world.

Jakeni said: “Being selected as President of Debate is a result of my passion for diplomacy and international relations.” She said the position shows the power of working hard and being dedicated to a goal.

The event aims to show excellence in debate. It also helps young leaders to make a change in the world. It will bring together voices from many countries to talk about global issues. 

Jakeni said: “It promotes diversity, unity, and critical thinking.” She said these events are important for training future leaders and helping countries work together.

As the leader, she will guide the talks to make sure they are meaningful and have a big impact. Jakeni said she will lead with a clear plan and show her skills. She said representing Africa in Europe is a great honour and not a very heavy burden.

The debates will focus on topics like leadership, global citizenship and change. These are issues that Jakeni cares about deeply. She hopes her role leaves a mark on the world for a long time.

As a young black woman leading the debate, Jakeni wants to use the craft as a tool for global progress. She said she is not just part of the global talk but is helping to lead it.
