World news bites: Zendaya’s ring steals Golden Globes spotlight

USA – Zendaya got people talking at the 2025 Golden Globes – not just because of her dress but because of a ring on her finger. The actress, who was up for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Musical or Comedy, wore a Louis Vuitton dress and Bulgari jewellery. Fans quickly noticed a ring on her left hand, making them wonder if she was engaged to Tom Holland. The couple hasn’t said anything yet.

UK – James Lee Williams, known as The Vivienne from RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, has died at 32. Drag Race judge Michelle Visage shared how heartbroken she was and praised The Vivienne’s talent and friendship. The reason for his death hasn’t been shared.

China – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is visiting Namibia, the Republic of the Congo, Nigeria and Chad. This continues a 35-year tradition of starting the year with a trip to Africa. The visit focuses on building stronger ties and working together on poverty, roads and growth.

UK – Snow, ice and rain are causing travel problems in the UK. The weather service issued 97 flood warnings and 262 alerts, with more snow expected. Some areas could get up to 15cm of snow. Roads are closed, flights are delayed, and people are being warned to stay away from floodwaters and rivers. The problems are expected to continue until Monday.
