USA – Iconic American music producer and entertainer Quincy Jones has died at 91. He passed away on Sunday night at his Bel Air home in Los Angeles, with his family by his side. Known worldwide for producing Michael Jackson’s legendary albums Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad, Jones also worked with music greats like Frank Sinatra and Aretha Franklin. Born in Chicago in 1933, Jones began his music career as a young boy and went on to make Grammy history with 80 nominations and 28 wins, becoming one of the most celebrated artists of all time.
Spain – Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia faced anger in the flood-hit region of Valencia, where locals blamed officials for a slow disaster response. During a visit to Paiporta, where over 200 people have died, residents threw eggs at the royal couple, calling the king a “murderer.” In a video later shared, the king and queen comforted grieving families. The death toll from the floods has now reached 214.
Africa – The World Health Organization (WHO) is sending nearly one million mpox vaccine doses to nine African countries through its Access and Allocation Mechanism (AAM) to ensure fair access to the vaccine. Over 50,000 people have already been vaccinated in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda as mpox cases have increased by 500% across 19 African nations.
China – China’s marriage rate is set to reach a record low in 2024, with only 4.74 million couples tying the knot in the first three quarters of the year—a drop of 16.6% from last year, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs. This decrease continues a trend since 2013 when marriages peaked at over 13 million.
USA – Cardi B responded to Elon Musk’s claim that she’s a “puppet” after she struggled with her lines during a rally for US Vice President Kamala Harris in Milwaukee. Musk shared a video of her struggling with a teleprompter and said she “can’t even talk without being fed the words.” Cardi defended herself on social media, speaking about her background as the daughter of immigrants raised in poverty, saying Musk has “no idea about the American struggle.”
