Nigeria – Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, visited Nigeria for three days, which received much attention from the media and included a ceremonial reception in Abuja, the capital. The couple attended a mental health summit at Lightway Academy and announced a collaboration between their Archewell Foundation and the Geanco Foundation to distribute school supplies and menstrual products to students. Meghan also co-hosted a women’s leadership indaba. During one discussion, Meghan spoke about her 43% Nigerian heritage, which she discovered through a genealogy test.
Hong Kong – The territory’s chief executive, John Lee Ka-chiu, criticised the United Kingdom after three men were charged in London for allegedly spying on behalf of Hong Kong’s intelligence services. London’s Metropolitan Police said Chi Leung Wai, Matthew Trickett, and Chung Biu Yuen faced national security and foreign interference charges. Lee dismissed the charges as fabricated and criticised the UK’s actions, a view echoed by the Chinese Embassy in London.
New York – As former president Donald Trump’s “hush money trial” in New York enters its fourth week, it has drawn the attention of his political allies, who appear to be pushing for potential roles in a future Trump administration. Among them, former Republican presidential challenger Vivek Ramaswamy is expected to attend Trump’s trial, following appearances by prominent Republicans such as Senators JD Vance and Tommy Tuberville, Representative Nicole Malliotakis, and state attorney generals Steve Marshall and Brenna Bird. Senator Rick Scott also accompanied Trump last week.
San Francisco – OpenAI has introduced GPT-4o, an advanced version of its AI chatbot technology. This new technology, accessible to all ChatGPT users, including those without subscriptions, is designed to be faster and more interactive, offering a chatty and occasionally flirtatious communication style. GPT-4o brings improved capabilities, such as image reading and discussion, language translation, and emotion recognition from facial expressions. While demonstrating its voice capabilities, GPT-4o engaged in tasks like advising on solving mathematical problems, translating code between Italian and English, and analysing emotions in images.
