World news bites: Kim Kardashian makes fashion statement with broken foot

Rorisang Modiba brings you daily global updates.

USA – Kim Kardashian, 44, has turned her broken foot into a fashion trend. She showed off a high-heeled cast on Instagram, designed like a stylish boot with gauze and an open-toe platform. Fans called the look “iconic” and “fashion-forward.” Earlier this month, Kardashian shared a photo of her injury with a medical boot and crutches, captioning it “FML.” Before her new cast, she was using a scooter to get around.

Congo – The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is suing Apple’s companies in Belgium and France, saying they used “blood minerals” from areas torn apart by war in the DRC and Rwanda. These minerals are linked to terrible crimes like massacres and mass rapes and are said to be used in Apple’s products. Congo accuses Apple of helping with crimes, lying, and laundering money, though Apple says its suppliers follow strict rules. Violence in eastern Congo has been a problem since the 1990s.

UK – Andrew and Tristan Tate must pay over £2-million after a UK court found they dodged taxes on £21-million earned from online businesses, including OnlyFans. Police also seized £2.8-million from accounts linked to the brothers and a woman. The court rejected their claims of complicated finances, calling it simple tax evasion.

Russia – Russia’s security service has arrested a 29-year-old man from Uzbekistan for killing Lt General Igor Kirillov, Russia’s chemical weapons boss. Kirillov and his assistant died when a scooter with explosives blew up near his home. Russia says the man was working for Ukrainian intelligence and was offered $100,000 and a chance to move to Europe. Ukraine has claimed responsibility, calling Kirillov a “legitimate target” for war crimes.
