Israel – Israel’s defence minister Yoav Gallant has complained about Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s lack of a post-war plan for Gaza. Gallant has emphasised the need for a non-hostile, locally governed Palestinian alternative, with international involvement, to take over after Hamas. This information was shared by another cabinet member, Benny Gantz, who supports Gallant’s call for responsible leadership.
California – In 2016, James Vlahos from Oakland, California, faced the heartbreaking news that his father was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and he later died. As he got into a career in AI, James developed an AI-powered chatbot that mimicked his father’s voice based on hours of recordings of his father’s voice. The chatbot can answer questions about his life, maintaining a resemblance to his father’s personality.
Russia – Russian President Vladimir Putin began a state visit to Beijing, meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping during ongoing Russian military operations in Ukraine. Russia has recently increased its attack in northeastern Ukraine, particularly in the Kharkiv region, leading to the evacuation of over 7,500 people. In response to the situation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky cancelled his planned international trips to focus on the crisis.
Georgia – Georgia’s parliament has passed a contentious “foreign agents” bill, leading to protests in Tbilisi and concerns over its potential impact on Georgia’s goals to join the European Union. The bill, which requires organisations with over 20% of their funding from foreign sources to register as “agents of foreign influence,” has been criticised for resembling a similar law in Russia. Despite opposition, including a promised veto from President Salome Zourabichvili, the Georgian Dream party-led parliament is likely to override the veto due to their majority.
