World news bites: Equatorial Guinea official found with 400 sex tapes

Equatorial Guinea – Baltasar Engonga, head of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), was found with over 400 sex tapes showing him with the wives of powerful men. The recordings were discovered during a fraud investigation and allegedly show Engonga with several high-profile women, including relatives of top ministers. Some tapes were reportedly filmed in his office, with the national flag in the background. Engonga has since been arrested.

USA – Singer Rihanna, who is from Barbados, shared a funny post about voting in the US election on Instagram. She posted a video with the caption, “POV: me trying to sneak into the polls with my son’s passport”, joking about wanting to vote in the presidential election between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. Even though she can’t vote in the US, Rihanna, 36, often encourages her American fans to get involved in elections. Although millions of Americans had already voted by mail, polling stations opened officially on Tuesday.

France – Six teenagers have been found guilty in the 2020 murder of French teacher Samuel Paty, who was killed after showing cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad in a lesson about free speech. One of the convicted teens was a girl who lied, claiming Paty targeted Muslim students even though she wasn’t in his class. The other teens were found guilty of helping Paty’s attacker identify him. While Paty’s family felt some relief, they thought the sentences were too light; all six were given suspended sentences.

USA – Microsoft’s Bill Gates says AI will change office work sooner than expected. Speaking on the Possible podcast, he predicted AI robots will work at building sites and hotels within 10 years, and make programming easier through everyday language.
