Spain – Spanish tourist Carlos Luna, 43, was killed by a herd of elephants in Pilanesberg National Park after leaving his vehicle to take photos. Luna, from Zaragoza, who was with his fiancée and two other women, ignored warnings from his friends and others nearby. He walked right up to three elephants with calves. One of the elephants charged at him, and he was trampled to death by the herd. His body will be sent back to Spain.
Britain – Kyle Clifford, 26, wanted for the murders of Carol Hunt, wife of BBC horse racing commentator John Hunt, and their daughters Hannah and Louise, has been arrested by British police. The three seriously injured women were found in Bushey, Hertfordshire, and later died. Police believe a crossbow and possibly other weapons were used. Clifford, who left the British army in 2022 and was known to the victims, is receiving treatment for injuries.
US – President Joe Biden faces a competitive race in the usually Democratic-leaning New York. Polls show Biden’s support in New York, which he won by 23 points in 2020, is declining. Two private polls in a swing district show former president Donald Trump leading Biden by one point, and public polls show Biden’s lead statewide has narrowed to just eight points. Democrat leaders are asking Biden to invest resources in the state to support his campaign and help Democrats in key swing districts.
India – Santosh Lohar, 35, from Bihar, India, bit a snake to death after being bitten while asleep. When he woke up, Lohar grabbed the snake and bit it three times, killing it. He said his reaction was based on local wisdom from his village in Jharkhand, which suggests that biting a snake twice will neutralise the venom.
