Burkina Faso – Burkina Faso’s military leaders want to bring back the death penalty. Capital punishment was abolished in 2018. Justice Minister Rodrigue Bayala says the penalty might be added to a new law, following orders from Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who took power in a 2022 military coup. Traoré’s government recently extended its rule by five years, delaying a return to civilian government. Amnesty International reports that more executions are happening in Africa, though 24 countries in sub-Saharan Africa have stopped using the death penalty for all crimes.

It will be taught by Daphne Brooks, an expert in Black studies, who will show how Beyoncé’s work affects culture and activism. Beyoncé’s latest album, Cowboy Carter, recently earned her 11 Grammy nominations.

The Geelong Botanic Garden, which acquired the flower in 2021, will stay open until Tuesday night for more visitors.
