Australia – Children under 16 might soon be blocked from social media in Australia. The government wants to make platforms like X, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook check users’ ages. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says this is to protect young people’s mental health, saying, “I’m calling time on it.” The law will come to Parliament in November and companies will have a year to put it in place. Some people worry this might push kids to use social media in secret and stop them from getting online mental health help.
USA – Rapper Drake got hearts melting when he shared a sweet letter from his 7-year-old son Adonis on Instagram. The boy thanked his dad for giving him a good life and family, signing it “Adonis to Dad.” Drake often shows off his father-son moments online. He recently threw Adonis a big SpongeBob SquarePants birthday party with special decorations.
Earth – This year might be the hottest ever recorded, says European climate experts. For the first time, Earth might get 1.5°C warmer than it was before factories and cars started pumping out pollution. We’ve had record-high temperatures for 13 months in a row, partly because of El Niño weather patterns. Scientists say the last ten years were probably the hottest in 120,000 years.
USA – After Donald Trump won the 2024 election, pop star Madonna posted a photo of a “f–k Trump” cake that she ate “to cope.” The cake, decorated in bright colours with cherries, was followed by a selfie where she shared her disbelief over Trump’s re-election, mentioning his criminal record.
