US – Rapper 50 Cent showed an edited image of Donald Trump on his Get Rich or Die Tryin’ album cover while performing Many Men at a Boston concert. The former president survived an assassination attempt on Saturday at a rally in Pennsylvania in which a volunteer fire chief was killed. The song Many Men is about when 50 Cent suffered an assassination attempt. Soon after the Trump shooting, the rapper started trending on social media. He jumped on X on Saturday night, sharing: “Trump gets shot, and now I’m trending.” His post came with a bizarre edited version of the Get Rich or Die Tryin’ album cover that went viral on social media.
Nigeria – Twenty-one people died and 30 were hospitalised after a school building collapsed during an exam in Jos in central Nigeria, trapping about 120 people. The collapse was blamed on the building’s weak structure and unsafe location near a riverbank. The government called the incident an “avoidable tragedy” and asked schools with similar safety issues to close.
Malaysia – A dead Malayan tiger found in Kelantan last month sparked calls for action as the species faces what is called a “national emergency”. Fewer than 150 are left in the wild due to habitat loss, poaching, and the decline of prey. Conservationists discussed the need for more vigorous efforts to save the species, including better patrols and advanced monitoring technology.
Kenya – Six decomposing bodies of women have been found in a Nairobi quarry, leading to protests at a nearby police station. The bodies, severely mutilated and wrapped in plastic, suggest the same person or persons may have killed them. Investigations are ongoing, and human rights group Vocal Africa suspects more bodies may be found. This discovery follows weeks of anti-government protests marked by civilian deaths and accusations of abductions by security forces.
