Mali – About 40 people died when armed men attacked the village of Djiguibombo in Mali’s Mopti region during a wedding on Monday. The attackers surrounded the village and opened fire on the unarmed wedding guests. Violence in this area has increased over the past decade due to insurgent groups linked to al-Qaeda and Islamic State. This has caused many deaths and people fleeing their homes, leading to recent coups in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, according to Reuters.

Gaza – At the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, many newborns, often premature and underweight, are struggling to survive. Many mothers are too malnourished to breastfeed, causing newborns to starve. Dr Hassam Abu Safah reported over 250 malnutrition cases in two weeks, stressing the desperate need for food and clean water. One premature baby died due to the mother’s exhaustion, while another, extremely underweight, struggled to breathe in an oversized diaper.

USA – Halle Bailey and DDG introduced their son Halo on Instagram during a family vacation in Italy. The couple, whose baby was born last year, shared pictures of the three of them on a dock. Halo was wearing a white onesie and sneakers, while Bailey wore a beige strapless fishnet dress. In one of the photos, the couple smiles while holding Halo up in the air, all dressed in black and white outfits. This was the first time they showed Halo’s face.

Russia – Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping celebrated their strong relationship at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Kazakhstan. Putin said Russia-China relations are the best they’ve ever been and help stabilise the world. Both leaders explained their roles in founding the SCO as a balance to Western power. Belarus joined as the 10th member, following Iran last year and the 2017 inclusion of India and Pakistan.
