‘Women with longer hair have more sex’

Researchers in South Korea have recently discovered a link between a woman’s hair length and her sex life.

Published in Evolutionary Psychology, the study surveyed 204 heterosexual married couples, focusing on how factors like hair quality, length, attractiveness and sexual dynamics correlate within the relationship.

The study suggests that women with longer hair are seen as more attractive by their partners, leading to increased sexual desire and, consequently, more frequent sex, the New York Post reported.

This could suggest that women’s hair length might play a role in what men look for in a partner.

The research did not find a similar correlation between men’s hair and their sex life.

In her 2018 PhD Visual Studies thesis for the University of Pretoria on the politics of black hair, Khulekani Madlela wrote that the respondents to her questionnaire “embraced both Western and Afrocentric styles”.

“However … a quantitative content analysis suggests that the Western ideal of long, straight hair dominated”.

Her research showed that “hair styling among black African women is a complex issue … and a politically charged subject … governed by social, cultural, religious, economic and political factors”.

Most of the respondents to her survey “pointed out that they relaxed their hair to make it easier to comb and style … [and] in addition, some wear long hair for professional reasons, while others adopt long weaves to attract men”.
