It was tragically unfortunate that the day they were supposed to commit to spending the rest of their lives together, the bride collapsed suddenly and died.
But the groom decided instead to marry her sister. By the end of the day, he was a married man.
The marriage between Mangesh Kumar and Surabhi was set for last Thursday in the village of Samaspur in Uttar Pradesh in India.
The groom and his family arrived at Surabhi’s family home on Thursday and began wedding rituals that evening.
During these ceremonies, however, Surabhi complained of uneasiness and moments later, she collapsed.
She was soon pronounced dead by a doctor who raced to the festivities.
“As per the doctor, the bride died of a heart attack,” Surabhi’s relatives told the Times of India.
The groom, who clearly decided that he hadn’t come all that way for nothing, then asked the bride’s parents for their younger daughter’s hand in marriage.
The parents agreed, and the groom and his new bride, Nisha, were married on the very same evening – while Surabhi’s lifeless body lay in the next room.
Surabhi’s brother, shocked by the night’s turn of events, told the publication, “It was a bizarre situation as the wedding of my younger sister was being solemnised while the body of my dead sister was lying in another room.”
The brides’ uncle, Ajab Singh, told IANS, “We have never experienced such mixed emotions. The grief over her death and the happiness of the wedding has yet to sink in.”
