- A large metal part washed up near Durban beach and no airline has said it belongs to them.
- Some think it could be from missing flight MH370, but no one knows for sure.
A strange metal part from an aeroplane has been found in the sea near the Durban beachfront and no one knows where it came from.
The part, which looks like it could be from a wing or tail section, was pulled from the water. Pictures of it have been shared among airline workers across the country.
So far, no South African airline has claimed the part as theirs.
Some believe it could be from the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which vanished while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on 8 March 2014.

A group of airline staff said officials have been trying to match the part to a known aircraft, which could be from a commercial aeroplane, but they haven’t had any luck.
If it turns out to be from MH370, it would be the second time parts of the plane have ended up on this side of the world. In 2015, a teenager named Liam Lotter found a one-metre-long metal piece while on holiday in Mozambique. He took it home without knowing what it was.
Flight MH370 is believed to have crashed in the Indian Ocean, killing all 239 passengers and crew on board.
Over the years, there have been many theories about what caused the plane to vanish — from a technical fault to a possible hijacking.
In December 2024, Malaysian authorities launched a fresh search for the plane near the western coast of Australia.
