Marcus Lamb, the co-founder of America’s largest Christian TV network and an outspoken anti-vaxxer, has died of Covid-19.
His network Daystar reaches a worldwide estimated audience of about 2 billion and regularly promotes anti-vaccine conspiracy theories.
The giant network also promotes alternative medicines to treat Covid-19, which are not medically proven to work.
After Lamb, 63, contracted Covid-19 a few weeks ago and was hospitalised, he reportedly tried the various treatments which his network promoted.
Daystar announced Lamb’s death on Tuesday in a tweet, which read:
“It’s with a heavy heart we announce that Marcus Lamb, president and founder of Daystar Television Network, went home to be with the Lord this morning.”
After Lamb’s death on Tuesday, his wife Joni appeared on the network’s Ministry Show and said that he had “got the Covid pneumonia.”
“He 100% believed in everything we talk about here on Daystar, things that help so many people around the world with early protocol treatments for Covid,” she said.
“We still stand by those obviously.”
One might still credit Daystar and Mrs Lamb for their transparency surrounding Lamb’s death.
When a South African TV evangelist Siva Moodley died in August, his network never broke the news to his audiences.
This is because Moodley claimed he could heal the sick and resurrect the dead.
“His poor health was hidden [from congregants] and his death is now being denied because it contradicts his claims that he had the supernatural powers to pray for himself and others,” Solomon Izang Ashoms, editor of the Christian magazine The Parable‚ told News24.
“These channels did not mind broadcasting his rubbish because they were only interested in money. Now they are not saying a word about his death and the viewers don’t know what’s going on. They are entitled to know the truth.”
Moodley’s body has sat in a Johannesburg morgue for over three months.
If his family don’t collect him soon, the City Council will be forced to bury him as a pauper.
