Durban – Dr Makhosi Khoza, a former ANC MP and current chairperson of ActionSA in KwaZulu-Natal, says she will soon announce the name of the new political party she will join ahead of the elections. Late last month Khoza told Scrolla.Africa she was in talks with several political parties, including the uMkhonto Wesizwe Party which is backed by former president Jacob Zuma (her former political nemesis in the ANC) and the Gap Fixers of South Africa, led by Sbu Mpisane, the former husband of high-flying Durban businesswoman, Shauwn Mkhize.
Bulwer – Nomagugu Luzulane, the former ANC mayor of the Dr Nkosazana Dlamini local municipality (formerly Ingwe) in southern KZN, has been found guilty of fraud and sentenced to five years’ imprisonment. In April 2012 a person who was her “associate” died and Luzulane devised a plan to raise funds for the funeral. She then initiated a project supposedly to buy food parcels for the poor using the municipality’s money, but the food was redirected to the funeral.
Nongoma – The Nongoma Municipality in northern KZN, which is led by a coalition of the ANC, NFP and the EFF, has changed its logo to feature the face of the late King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu, the father of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini. This comes after calls to rename the largely rural municipality after the late king.
Durban – Gap Fixers of South Africa has announced some of its policies as it gears up for the elections. Among them, the party wants the tender system to be scrapped and border security to be tightened to stem the tide of illegal immigration.
Isipingo – Two men aged 40 and 43 have been arrested after the Economic Infrastructure Task Team of the SAPS found them in possession of copper cables and transformers. The allegedly stolen equipment was kept at a scrapyard at Isipingo.
Durban – Ngizwe Mchunu is due to give an update on Friday regarding his upcoming cultural carnival in central Durban. Mchunu has said the carnival is meant to rival the launch of the EFF manifesto at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.
