The state legal system is preparing to challenge the release of individuals charged in the high-profile deaths of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.
The murder event occurred outside the now-closed Wish on Florida restaurant in Durban last year in February.
During the suspect’s court appearance on Thursday, it was revealed that five out of the seven suspects were formally charged with several serious offences.
These include conspiracy to commit murder, the act of murder itself, attempted murder, and the illicit possession of firearms and ammunition, as detailed by Senior State advocate Lawrence Gcaba.
Gcaba further noted the recent arrest of two additional suspects in Eswatini with efforts underway to secure their return to South Africa.
The accused face charges under a Schedule 6 offence which requires them to demonstrate special circumstances that would justify their temporary release on bail.
The case is set to continue on Wednesday 6 March as further investigative efforts unfold.
The courtroom was packed with people including AKA’s father Tony Forbes, Police Minister Bheki Cele, and KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
