‘We want to get rid of tenders’ – Gap Fixers SA

A party called Gap Fixers SA, launched on the weekend, wants to get rid of the tender system.

The president of Gap Fixers SA, Themba Buthelezi, and the chairperson, Sbu Mpisane — the ex-husband of Shauwn MaMkhize of the Royal AM — have agreed with the leadership of the party that they will champion the eradication of the tender system.

Both have been direct beneficiaries of the system.

They said they believe that the system has enriched the few; therefore it should be eradicated so that people can be directly employed on the labour market.

The new political party that was formed by tenderpreneurs in KwaZulu-Natal has also joined the call for the relocation of the KZN Legislature to Ulundi to save millions that are spent on renting government offices in Pietermaritzburg.

Gap Fixers SA made the call during its official launch in Umhlanga, north of Durban over the weekend.

Buthelezi said the provincial government is spending about R11 million per year to rent buildings for different departments from a private company.

The Legislature is paying R180,000 for its offices from a privately owned company.

“We have an old Legislature building in Ulundi that we can use without renting offices to someone else. We can save a lot more than spending money on rental buildings that are in Pietermaritzburg,” said Buthelezi.

The Ulundi Parliament is a state-of-the-art building. And political parties who are calling for its use again stated that it has more parking than the precinct in Pietermaritzburg.

Recently ActionSA KZN premier candidate Zwakele Mncwango said that the old Legislature precinct proved itself to be more convenient than the one in Pietermaritzburg after different political leaders flocked there in November to meet King Misuzulu KaZwelithini.
