Four people were killed and hundreds injured after part of a stadium collapsed in El Espinal, Tolima state in Colombia.

The incident occurred on Sunday during a “corraleja”, a bullfight festival where members of the public jump into the ring to run alongside the bulls.

In a video posted on social media, a stand full of spectators can be seen collapsing during the bullfight, while those on the ground run as the structure topples towards them.

El Espinal Mayor Juan Carlos Tamayo confirmed the accident in a Facebook post on Sunday.

“We deeply regret what happened in our bullfight arena. At this moment, we have four dead victims confirmed: two women, an adult man and a minor. We have activated all the hospitals and ambulances we can work with,” read the post.

Local hospitals reportedly received 322 patients who were injured. Of those, Tamayo said 30 were serious.

No official cause of the collapse has been given.

AlJazeera reports that President-elect Gustavo Petro urged local officials to ban such events, noting that it was not the first time an incident had occurred.

“I ask mayors not to allow more events involving the death of people or animals,” he said.
