Viola Davis slams ‘white genocide’ lies in South Africa

  • Davis said these lies are dangerous and hurt South Africans trying to build a united future after apartheid.
  • Police Minister Senzo Mchunu said five of the six people killed on farms this year were black, not white.

Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis has slammed the false story that white South Africans are being targeted and killed because of their race.

She said the story, often pushed by far-right groups and some politicians, only causes more harm in a country still healing from apartheid.

Davis posted her views on social media on Saturday. She stood with South Africans who are fighting for justice and unity. Her post quickly spread across the internet, with many supporting her and others joining the debate.

The so-called “white genocide” story has been shared by United States President Donald Trump and the South African group AfriForum.

On Friday, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu shared new farm murder figures. He said six people were killed on farms between January and March 2025. Five were black. Only one was white.

“Spreading this false story is wrong and divides our country,” Mchunu said.

Davis, known for speaking out on social justice, said such claims are dangerous. She said they prevent South Africans from moving forward together.
