Verstappen stuck between a rock and a hard place

Max Verstappen, the three-time Formula 1 world champion, found himself in a tough spot when asked about his father Jos’s comments regarding the Red Bull team’s politics.

Jos had said there would be turmoil in the team unless Christian Horner, the Red Bull principal, stepped down.

Jos himself was a better-than-average Formula 1 driver between 1994 and 2003, but he was known for his less-than-friendly relationships with the many teams he raced for.

Lewis Hamilton added to the Red Bull drama by hinting that Mercedes might be interested in signing Verstappen.

During a busy press conference, Verstappen chose his words carefully, avoiding any direct mention of Horner.

Instead, he stressed his trust in his father’s honesty.

Despite an internal investigation clearing Horner of alleged inappropriate behaviour, the controversy continues to lurk in the background.

Verstappen said he was content at Red Bull, making any immediate move to Mercedes seem unlikely.

Hamilton, who has experienced the influence of having a father involved in his racing career, praised Verstappen’s ability to guide his career decisions independently.

Formula 1 action returns this weekend with the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix taking place on Saturday.
