A New York woman refuses to leave Pakistan after her teenage online boyfriend’s family rejected her. Now, she is demanding millions from the government.
Onijah Andrew Robinson, 32, flew across the world to meet Nidal Ahmed Memon after chatting online. But instead of finding love, she found heartbreak when his family stopped the relationship.
Now, Robinson won’t go home. She wants $100,000 (about R1.9-million) from Pakistan’s government to “rebuild” their country. She also demands $20,000 (about R380,000) in cash by the end of the week.
At a press conference, she had strong words for Pakistan’s government. “My plan is to rebuild this entire country. I’m asking for $100k, and I need $20k in cash by the end of this week. That’s my demand from the government.
“The government needs to fix these streets… it’s ridiculous here, I don’t like it. You all need to understand that Pakistan needs new buses, taxis, and cars.”
Robinson, who has four children back home, arrived in Pakistan in October. Nidal’s family met her but quickly rejected the relationship. Some people say Nidal never even showed up to meet her.
“I’m married to him. His parents don’t want us to be together, but we’re married,” Robinson claims.
She is now getting help at a local medical centre. Someone who says he is her son explained: “She can’t think correctly at this moment. She was married to nobody. I’m trying to help her.”
