Kaizer Chiefs could end Black Leopards’s four-year run in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday afternoon when the teams meet at Thohoyandou Stadium at 3pm.
Chiefs, on the other hand, are currently in 11th place after 27 matches and three points against bottom of the log Leopards would see them back into the top eight.
Not only would Chiefs move up to 8th place with a win but they would also send Leopards down to the GladAfrica Championship.
The Limpopo side have collected 19 points after 27 matches and they face the possibility of being relegated if they lose on Wednesday. It will be their third relegation since the inception of the Premier Soccer League in 1996.
Last season, they finished in 15th place but survived the axe after winning the promotion/relegation play-offs.
Chiefs’ inconsistency this season could give Lidoda Duvha hope of retaining their spot in the DStv Premiership for the time being.
Chiefs have given away three points to Chippa and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, which has helped those two teams a great deal.
Sundowns could also be crowned champions if they gain three points against neighbours SuperSport United. A win would take the Brazilians ten points clear of second-placed AmaZulu with just three games to go. Sundowns kick-off against SuperSport United at 5pm, following the Chiefs vs Leopards encounter.
If they are to win the league, this would be Sundowns’ fourth league title in a row, a feat never seen before in South African football.
