“The chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one,” says Jeff Wayne in his song about War of the Worlds and it is probably correct – but US intelligence services have not ruled out the possibility that many recent UFO sightings were in fact visiting alien spaceships!
There is no explanation for reports about 120 sightings of unidentified flying objects.
No evidence has been found to support either theory.
The highly-anticipated report will be shown to US Congress on 25 June and it is understood to conclude that the majority of the UFO sightings did not come from the US military. The sightings were made by navy pilots over the last 20 years but the report, however, appears to rule out the possibility that the pilots who made the sightings had accidentally come across top secret US military activities.
The report, whose findings were shown to the New York Times, does not rule out the possibility that the UFOs came from secret technology developed by other countries.
Officials think that at least some of the sightings might be unknown technologies created by a rival country, such as China or Russia.
The theory that some of the objects were weather balloons fails in many cases.
Former president Barack Obama said on TV last week: “What is true, and I’m actually being serious here, is that there is footage and records of objects in the skies that we don’t know exactly what they are.’’
However, UFO experts have thrown cold water on speculation about aliens.
Mick West, an author, investigator and UFO sceptic, told Sky News: “People are conflating this with the idea that these UFOs demonstrate amazing physics and are possibly even aliens.” He went on to say that it was wrong to link the concepts.
